PURPOSE: To provide a computer work station for executing an application generating data transmitted by means of a network. CONSTITUTION: The computer network station contains a communication sub-system 14 having responsibility for actually transmitting data generated by the application 12 to the network. The application 12 transfers data 22 to be transmitted to the communication sub-system 14 with a channel identifier 24 and compression information 26, which pass through for data transmission. In a first example, the communication sub-system 14 contains various compression routines 40 and compression information 26 shows which routine is most appropriate for data of the problem. In a second example, compression information 26 is a call back function and the communication sub-system 14 can call back an application program executing compression itself. |
