PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To uniformize irradiation energy density and suppress increase in heat and shortening of life of a lamp consequent upon heightened output and increased electric power. SOLUTION: In this illuminant device, a feed means for applying a high voltage to electrodes of dielectric barrier discharge lamps B, B1, B2,... is divided into a preceding part M and latter parts S, S1, S2,..., the latter parts are provided for dielectric barrier discharge lamps in one-to-one corresponding relation, the preceding part supplies each latter part with a common DC power source voltage 1, each latter part converts the DC power source voltage into an alternating-current high voltage H of substantially periodic waveform by means of switch elements and a step-up transformer T, and applies the alternating- current high voltage to the electrodes. Each of the latter parts is capable of independently adjusting frequency of the alternating-current high voltage while the preceding part is capable of adjusting the common DC power source voltage 1. |
