After the immune system of mice has been destroyed by irradiation, human embryonic pluripotent stem cells are grafted into the mice in order to avoid a graft versus host reaction. The mice are then treated with interleukin 3 (IL-3) and other growth and differentiation factors in order to induce division and differentiation of the transplanted stem cells.
