The invention relates to an applicator for inserting a ring 12 for intra-uterine use. The ring, which has a removal cord 11, is made from elastic polymeric material which contains an active ingredient. According to the invention the applicator consists of a longituidinal shaft 15 the uterine entering end 18 of which is shaped according to the sleeve of the ring to ensure that the ring stays in place during insertion. The applicator further has a handle 17 and a locking device 19 with which the tautly drawn removal cord can be locked in place. <IMAGE>
