PURPOSE:To obtain the material which is excellent in storage stability and provides a thin film of grain-like design with good finish as to smoothness, hiding power, etc., by mixing a mica with an emulsion of a synthetic resin obtained by copolymerizing specified monomers at a specified ratio, and adjusting the pH of the mixture to a specified value or above. CONSTITUTION:50 pts.wt. (solids) synthetic resin emulsion (e.g. acrylic ester emulsion) is mixed with 1-20 pts.wt. (solids) emulsion of a synthetic resin obtained by copolymerizing a monomer of formula I (wherein R<1> is H or methyl; and R<2> is H or 1-4C alkyl) (e.g. ethyl acrylate or butyl acrylate) and a monomer of formula II (wherein R<3> is H or methyl) (e.g. glycidyl methacrylate) at a weight ratio of 100:(1:5 to 5) and 20-250 pts.wt. flaky colored mica having a particle diameter of 1-5mm, and the pH is adjusted to 8 or higher with, e.g. aqueous ammonia to provide the material. Although this material contains mica, it can prevent the agglomeration of the mica so that it does not suffer settling of the mica even in long-term storage. |
