PRODUCTION OF QUARTZ GLASS PREFORM FOR OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To provide a process for production of the quartz glass preform for an optical fiber capable of producing the quartz glass preform for the optical fiber by a stretching furnace from a quartz glass preform ingot without an adverse influence on control of its outside diameter. CONSTITUTION:Heating of the small-diameter part 4 and dummy rod part 5 of the quartz glass preform ingot 2 from a heating element 7 of the stretching furnace 1 is shielded by a heat resistant heat shielding jig 9 in the process for production of the quartz glass preform 8 for the optical fiber of the diameter smaller than the diameter of the quartz glass preform ingot 2 from this ingot by using the stretching furnace 1.
