PURPOSE:To provide a method for producing astaxanthin by improving a method for culturing a green alga Haematococcus pluvialis, thereby increasing the astaxanthin content in a short time and efficiently producing the astaxanthin, especially a method for producing the astaxanthin comprising the application of a temperature stress to the Haematococcus pluvialis and culturing the Haematococcus pluvialis. CONSTITUTION:This method for producing astaxanthin comprises culturing Haematococcus pluvialis in a culture medium under a temperature stress, thereby inducing the conversion into a cystic cell accompanying the production of astasanthin, further applying a temperature stress thereto, adding a substance capable of producing active oxygen and a carbon source to the culture medium simultaneously, before and/or after the application of the temperature stress thereto, thereby promoting the production of the astaxanthin with the Haematococcus pluvialis and collecting the resultant astaxanthin from the prepared culture. |
