PURPOSE:To increase collation speed without lowering accuracy and to reduce memory consumption. CONSTITUTION:An importance is determined for each feature point in the pattern of a registered fingerprint and the information on the importance is included in registered data. The importance is determined by adding a rank and a distance. The rank is a standard when other feature point does not exist in the surroundings, ambient areas S4 to S1 are fixed as stepwise large areas with a feature point P as a center, a maximum ambient area where other feature point does not exist is determined from these ambient areas and the rank is determined according to the stage. For instance, if the maximum ambient area is the 31, the rank is defined as a level '1'. The distance is the standard in the closeness from the center point, the distance from the center point (an origin) is determined for the feature point P and the distance is determined according to this distance. For instance, if the distance from the center point is in 0 to 9 picture elements, the distance is defined as a level '0'. |
