PURPOSE:To miniaturize a video signal recording and reproducing device in comparison with the conventional device where a mechanical deck is fixed and a video cassette is moved to be exchanged. CONSTITUTION:A cassette magazine 20 stores ten video cassettes 1. A changer chassis 40 is moved in the arranging direction of the video cassette 1 by a motor 41a, a pinion 41d and an MD moving rack in a state where the mechanical deck 30 is mounted. A slide base chucks and carries the video cassette 1 selected by a user to the deck 30. The deck 30 records a video signal on a magnetic tape in the carried video cassette 1 or reproduces the video signal from the magnetic tape.
