PURPOSE:To improve the wear resistance and friction resistance of a magnetic recording medium by successively forming an intermediate layer consisting of the oxide or nitride of a specific metal and lubricating layer consisting of a phthalocyanine comp. on a thin ferromagnetic metallic film. CONSTITUTION:The thin film 2 consisting of a ferromagnetic metal (e.g.: Co-Cr) is provided on a nonmagnetic substrate 1 and the intermediate layer 3 consisting of the oxide or nitride of >=1 kinds of metals among Si, Ti, Zr, Mn, Al and Fe is provided on the film 2. A protective layer 4 consisting of the metal-free or metallic salt of the phthalocyanine is provided on the layer 3. The wear resistance of the magnetic recording medium is improved by the layer 3 according to the above-mentioned constitution and since the friction resistance is improved by the layer 4, the magnetic recording medium having excellent running property and durability is obtd. |
