摘要 |
PURPOSE:To provide the optical waveguide with which the accuracy of alignment is made less severe and further, low-loss connection is possible by increasing the spot size of light in the input/output part of an optical waveguide in connection of the optical waveguide and optical devices. CONSTITUTION:Optical fibers 2 which are expanded in cores 6 are used. The cores 3 in an optical waveguide substrate 1 are also so formed that the cores are larger toward the input/output end face 9 of the optical waveguide. As a result, the respective spot sizes of the light of the optical fibers and the optical waveguide are enlarged. The loss by the mispositioning of the expanding parts 7 of the optical fibers and the expanding parts 4 of the cores of the optical waveguide is smaller than in the case the spot sizes are not expanded. |
