MOTION VECTOR DETECTION APPARATUS AND METHOD

The device calculates an optimal motion vector by using not an average squaring error but also a correlation coefficient when it implements a block matching algorithm. It comprises : (i) a memory part for an inputted image(10); (ii) a memory part for a decoded previous image(20); (iii) an error image detector(30); (iv) a correlation detector(40); (v) an average error detector(50); (vi) a motion vector detector(60). It is easily applicable to an encoding system of a high density television. It increases a compressibility greatly by combining the correlation on a time domain and extracting the motion vector.
