The disclosure relates to a package of plastic with a layer, applied on the inside of the package, of a silicon oxide compound of the general chemical formula SiOx, where x may vary from 1,8 to 2,2. The thin silicon oxide layer which is produced by vacuum deposition direct on the inner surfaces of the package has a thickness of less than 2000 .ANG.. At the same time as the silicon oxide layer of the package efficiently prevents migration of foreign components or substances into a product which is packed in the package, it also displays superior barrier properties against absorption or other take-up of flavour and aroma substances occurring in the product, so-called non-scalping properties.
