<p>Living polymerizations of monomers via a catalyst of the form M-L-M, wherein M is an organolanthanide complex and L is a functionalized linking group covalently bound to both M's are provided, as well as a two-step process for forming triblock copolymers. In a particularly preferred embodiment, acrylate esters or lactones, A, are polymerized via the catalyst (Cp2)Sm(ν-θ3-allyl)(ν-θ3-allyl)Sm(Cp2) to yield a narrow molecular weight distribution polymers of formula (A)n(L)(A)m, where L is (CH2)6. A triblock copolymer of formula (B)o(A)n(L)(A)m(B)p, may be formed by adding a second monomer, B, prior to quenching the reaction with methanol.</p> |
