PURPOSE:To provide a seat belt tightening device which has simple structure and promptly tighten a seat belt in the case of the detection of the quick deceleration of a vehicle. CONSTITUTION:A seat belt tightening device has a compression spring 6 provided in a casing 1; a reverse movement preventing rod 12 connected with the buckle 14 of a seat belt at its one end; a wire 10 connected with the above rod 12; and a mass body 2 which is abutted against one end of the compression spring 6 and connected with another end of the wire 10, and can move in the extending direction of the compression spring 6 with its extension. Plate springs 4A, 4B having a stopper 5A which can engage and disengage with a holder 3 to support the other end of the compression spring 6 are provided on the mass body 2, and the stopper 5A is locked on the holder 3 to keep the compression spring 6 in a compressed state. The device has a retainer 7 which abuts against a stopper 5B provided opposite to the stopper 5A for controlling the movement of the stopper 5A in a direction where engagement is released. |
