The invention relates to a coupling apparatus in a push- lighter system, the pushing vessel 1 being coupled to the vessel 2 that is to be pushed. The coupling is achieved by means of cylinder assemblies 3, which operate with compressed air, and which are located at the sides of the hull 5 of the pushing vessel. In the vessel that is to be pushed a series of cupped plates 4 is provided as stops, in which there are cups and guide surfaces for guiding the end of the piston rod into the cup at the right height. The use of compressed air in the cylinder assembly 3 does not require special arrangements on the vessel, and a very well sprung system is moreover produced owing to the compressive properties of the gas. <IMAGE>
