The setting device (10) has a feed channel (50) for the holder plates which runs crossways to the horizontal. It has a location for a stack (52) of plates which for release of an outlet aperture is movable crossways to the feed channel. A drop shaft (90) is provided for guiding a holder plate falling through the outlet aperture into a horizontal setting position. A fixture device (20,18) is provided for fixing the holder plate located in the setting position on the strip. The setting device has at least one rotatable eccentric tensioner arranged laterally to the stack on the feed channel, and whose rotary axis is vertical to the stacked holder plates.
