In a clamping system for a ceramic sealing plate in a supporting frame or holder (2) for a valve, in particular a gate valve on a metallurgical vessel, the sealing plate (1) is held on the supporting frame or holder (2) by a strip (4). In order that pressure be applied evenly around the periphery of the sealing plate, the strip (4) undulates in the longitudinal direction. Some high points of these undulations are sprung against the sealing plate (1). The high points (8) that lie between these are sprung against the supporting frame or the holder (2), or against an intermediate plate (9).
