PURPOSE:To provide a nitrogen oxides reducing method capable of reducing and removing NOX by the action of CO under an oxygen excess atmosphere over the wide range of high temp. CONSTITUTION:This nitrogen oxides reducing method is applied for reducing nitrogen oxides contained in the exhaust gas in which the oxygen concn. is equal to or more than a stoichiometric ratio required for oxidizing a component to be oxidized in the exhaust gas, and nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas is reduced by bringing the exhaust gas containing excess oxygen into contact with a nitrogen oxides reducing catalyst under the coexistence of CO.
