<p>PURPOSE: To provide an image forming apparatus having advantages of an electrophotographic system and a thermal recording system and forming an image of high quality excellent in durability. CONSTITUTION: An image forming apparatus has a photothermal recording member 2 constituted by successively forming an amorphous photoconductive layer 4, a light pervious conductive layer 5 and a light pervious surface protective layer 6 on a cylindrical conductive support 3, the pulse beam irradiation means 7 arranged outside the recording member 2, a peripheral pressure member 9 pressing thermal recording paper or recording paper 8 on which an ink film 16 is superposed to the outer peripheral surface of the photothermal recording member 2 and the cooling means 12 of the photothermal recording member 2. Photothermal recording is performed by irradiating the photothermal recording member with pulse beam while voltage is applied across the conductive support 3 and the light pervious conductive layer 5. A hot-melt ink coating means, a thermally fixable toner coating means or a toner supply means is arranged to the surface of the photothermal recording member 2 or peripheral pressure member 9 to apply recording to plain paper.</p> |
