DATA NORMALIZATION PROCESSING METHOD FOR ARITHMETIC UNIT

PURPOSE: To provide a method which can fast normalize the data on digital signals for an arithmetic unit. CONSTITUTION: A normalization shift number detection part 2 directly fetches the data on a data bus 6a via a signal line 7, outputs the detected normalization shift number to a barrel shifter control register 3 via a signal line 8, and directly sets the normalization shift number to the register 3. Then a barrel shifter 1 fetches the data on a data bus 6b via a signal line 10, receives a shift number control signal from the register 3 via a signal line 9, and shifts the fetched data by an extent equal to the normalization shift number to directly output the normalization data to a general-purpose register 5 via a signal line 11. Thus a piece of data can be normalized in a single step.
