PURPOSE: To form a product in a high yield and embody an excellent productiv ity by forming a honeycomb body with a conventional steel, etc., and constitut ing an outer periphery layer of the honeycomb body with plural winding of a plane plate, and moreover, forming a aluminum.iron alloy layer, etc., on the surface of the plane plate 1a and a corrugated plate of the honeycomb body. CONSTITUTION: Firstly the plane plate 1a and the corrugated plate 1b are lapped in a conventional method, then wrapped to form the honeycomb body 1 in a specific dimension. Then, a powdery mixture, for example, mixing powdery alumina and powdery ammonium chloride to at least one kind among powdery Fe-Al alloy, powdery Fe-Cr-Al alloy and powdery Fe-REM is filled in the honeycomb body 1 as a diffusing agent. Then, the honeycomb body is charged in a powder tank 4 in which this powdery mixture is filled to fill the outer periphery of the honeycomb body with this powdery mixture 3, then heated in Ar atmosphere. A heat resistant Fe-Al alloy layer is formed on the surface of each plate constituting the honeycomb body by subjecting the honeycomb body 1 to a power penetrating treatment like this. |
