The invention relates to a process for producing an arc- shaped stone element 2 from an elongated stone blank 1. In the process for cutting the stone blank 1, a rotary cylinder blade 2 is used, the diameter of which is greater than the width of the stone blank 1. In the process, the stone element 2 is shaped by bringing the stone blank 1 and the cylinder blade 3 into mutually facing arrangement and by firstly, with the cylinder blade 3, executing essentially a cut extending through the stone blank 1, by next withdrawing the cylinder blade 3 from the stone blank 1 and by thereafter displacing the stone blank 1 and/or the cylinder blade 3 relative to each other in the longitudinal direction of the stone blank 1 by a distance corresponding to the desired thickness of the stone element 2 and cutting anew through the stone blank 1. The stone element 2 which is thereby formed has the same radius in both cut faces 8,9. <IMAGE>
