The on screen display system of an wide screen television comprises a video compressing unit equipped with a line memory for reducing horizontal axis of a narrow screen video signal to a reference ratio, an on screen processing unit for generating signals of on screen numbers and characters, a mixing unit for mixing compressed narrow screen video signals and on screen character signals, a screen dividing unit for controlling the video compressing unit, and the on screen processing unit for preventing the reading time of a line memory included in the picture compressing unit and an on screen character signal output time of the on screen processing unit being piled up within a horizontal scanning time, thereby achieving OSD on the wide screen without interfering narrow screen display. |
