Digital packet routing method e.g. for digital television system

The method involves transmitting input data received in a data stream between a system transmission unit and a receiver, with the packets arranged according to the order in which they are placed in the input stream. The packets have been previously numbered in order. Transmission is on different channels according to the level of priority of the input packets. An output packet stream is formed and uses a transmission protocol for a full packet in the output stream. The protocol is incremented each time a numbering error is detected in one of the packets which is ready to be transmitted. The process continues until all the data has been examined.
