PURPOSE: To suppress fault current of a power system without increasing an adjustment capacity for phase adjustment, by inserting a current-limiting element into the exciting winding of the series transformer of a phase adjuster, at the time of a fault of a power system occurring. CONSTITUTION: A current-limiting element 5 is composed of an impedance element 51 to be connected in series to the exciting winding 32 of a series transformer 3, and a high-speed switch 52 for inserting or short-circuiting this element 51. If a fault occurs in a system and fault current flows, a current transformer 7 detects this, and a controller 6 operates. The high-speed switch 52 is opened, and both terminals of the impedance element 51 are opened. Consequently, the impedance element 51 is connected in series to the exciting winding 32. The impedance converted on the side of the exciting winding 32 becomes larger compared with that at normal time, and fault current flowing on the side of the exciting winding 32 is suppressed. |
