<p>A passive, self-contained mechanical control device for controlling the preloading of vehicle suspensions (1) depending on the static and dynamic loads thereon, wherein each suspension (1) comprises a hydraulic cylinder (3) between the housing (26) of the suspension (1) and the body of the vehicle. The hydraulic cylinders (3) are interconnected and biased via hydraulic circuits (5) by a hydraulic accumulator (66) containing a spring (38) with a constant preload applied to the various circuits (5) by a piston (9b). The circuit (5) in each control device is separate from the other circuits (5) and the hydraulic accumulator (66) comprises a working chamber (10) for each hydraulic cylinder (3). Each suspension (1) comprises at least one resilient member with at least one abutment restricting operation to one portion of the member. The device may advantageously be used in racing vehicles.</p> |
