In order to thread a compound multi-filament yarn (1) by guiding into an eyelet (2) and then through a suction device (3) and through a separating knife (4) as well as on to a drafting consisting of double godets (5 and 6) and through a texturing unit (9 and 12) as well as over a relax unit, consisting of double rollers (7), into a winding device (13), the drafting unit (5 and 6) and the relax unit (7) are arranged at an angle (alpha) of less than 90.degree. to a reference level (E) arranged as the winding device (13), which is arranged at an angle (delta) of essentially 90.degree. to the reference level (E). Furthermore, a working position (16) is provided, from which an operator can service all the units comfortably when guiding the thread (1), due to the aforementioned arrangement of the drafting units and relax units relative to the winding device.
