<p>PURPOSE: To enable steering in a comfortable position by providing a steering position setting means that can set the steering position of a steered wheel, and controlling an actuator on the basis of signals from a steering position sensor and the steering position setting means to steer a vehicle. CONSTITUTION: This steering system 1 is provided with a manual steering gear 2 and a position control device 12. The manual steering gear 2 is provided with a worm gear 4A for transmitting power from an actuator 15 to a steering shaft 4, and a rack shaft 8 partially provided with a tapered cutout part 11.
