The paper web runs between a rotatable knife holder cylinder (1) and a rotatable counter pressure cylinder. The knife blade (4) is firmly held in a track (5) in the knife holder cylinder with the aid of a retention device (6) extending along the track. The device for determining the height position does so on the retention device in relation to the bottom (17) of the track. The height determining unit (16) is arranged between the retention device and the bottom of the track and has a length which corresponds to that of the parts of the retention device which hold the knife blade.
