摘要 <p>PURPOSE: To inexpensively obtain four times of picture elements with high resolution by applying processing of converting the number of picture elements of each line and the number of lines to a three-primary color image signal and converting the signal based on a format. CONSTITUTION: An image signal outputted from CCD image pickup element 3-5 is fed to a gamma correction section 8 via an amplifier section 6 and an A/D converter section 7. Then the amplifier section 6 amplifies a signal level, a conversion section 7 converts the signal into a digital signal, the correction section 8 applies gamma correction and the result is fed to an interpolation processing section 9. The processing section 9 expands the number of picture elements of the image signal twice in horizontal and vertical directions through interpolation between picture elements and the result is fed to a picture element number conversion section 10. The conversion section 10 conducts format conversion processing and converts the number of picture elements of each image signal by picture element number conversion processing. Furthermore, the aspect ratio is revised by cutting off an image range or adding a signal properly to an image at the outside of the range. The processing above is executed depending on the conversion mode set by the image pickup device and an image signal with high resolution according to a format is obtained.</p>
