MOVEMENT COMPENSATION ARITHMETIC UNIT

PURPOSE: To simplify constitution by constituting difference computing devices for movement detection in a linear array and supplying the corresponding picture elements in a search area while delaying them by 4 clocks equivalent to the number of picture elements for respective groups equivalent to the number of picture elements on one row. CONSTITUTION: Computing device 3 holds the values corresponding to the respective picture elements of the template of 4 picture elements×4 rows, fetches the picture elements of the search area of 12 picture elements×12 rows through a delay line, calculates a difference absolute value and outputs the result to an adder 5. The adder 5 adds the output of the computing device 3 to the output of the adder 5 of a prestage sent through a register 4 and transmits the result through the register 4 to the next stage for the respective clocks. The search area correspondent picture elements are supplied through the respective delay lines for the respective groups of the computing devices 3 corresponding to the respective rows of the template. In this case, the input of the search area correspondent picture elements is delayed by 4 clocks equivalent to the number of picture elements of the respective rows of the template and supplied for the respective rows. Proscribed calculation (not shown) is started by the next clock capable of obtaining the partial sum of the difference absolute values of the respective rows.
