<p>A plastic container comprises a base forming portion that includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced, generally spherical shaped segments (26) and a plurality of intervening, circumferentially spaced, totally convex hollow foot forming portions (21) that extend radially from a central bottom portion (29) and downwardly from the spherically shaped segments (26) to form a clearance for the central bottom portion. The clearance forming portion of each foot forming portion includes a compound curved offset (23b) formed with opposing radii of curvature (30, 31). The compound curved offset curves downwardly and outwardly about a center of curvature below the bottom forming portion before curving about a center of curvature above the bottom forming portion. Each clearance forming portion further includes a spherical surface (23a) extending from the central bottom portion and merging into the compound curved offset (23b) and a lowermost substantially planar portion (23c) extending from the compound curved offset to form one of the feet.</p> |
