The address generator (19) receives three address elements corresponding to the musical time signature in the bar, number of beats to a bar, and the rhythmic level. The information on tempo is displayed as a choice of frequencies (4) from a number of frequencies applied at the pulse generator (5) which are then divided by two (13). A display (17) is set by the user giving the number of beats to the bar and a counter (18) counts the pulses from the generator to deduce the musical time signature in the bar. The sound memory records each sound with its longest duration corresponding to a rhythmic level. A logic control (14) ensures the reduction of this duration as a function of the frequency displayed.
