<p>A method and an apparatus for rapid non-invasive determination of blood composition parameters, comprising irradiating a blood-containing body part (9) of a live organism with an electromagnetic radiation of near-infrared wavelength range, measuring spectrum values of an electromagnetic radiation exiting from the body part (9) and determining one or more unknown values of blood composition parameters on the basis of the measured spectrum values, which are obtained by measuring a transmittance spectrum (17) of the body part (9) at several wavelengths in a lower part of the near-infrared wavelength range and a reflectance and/or interactance spectrum (18) of the body part (9) at several wavelengths in an upper part of the near-infrared wavelength range, and determining said one or more unknown values of blood composition parameters by taking said two spectra as a single spectrum. The accuracy of the determination can be further increased by measuring at least a part of the spectrum values with a frequency higher than the heartbeat period of the live organism, determining therefrom a characteristic changing in accordance with the heartbeat rhythm, and selecting the spectrum values for determination of said one or more unknown values of blood composition parameters synchronously with periodical changes of said characteristic.</p> |
