PURPOSE: To provide the printer device and setting method for the communication parameters of the device which eliminate the need for an extra equipment for setting the parameters by down-loading a setting program for the communication parameters to the printer device and setting the communication parameters by the printer device. CONSTITUTION: The setting program for the communication parameters when down-loaded through a network board 217 is stored in a RAM 205. The setting program has a function linked with key operation on a console panel 102 and sets the communication parameters in response to the key operation according to the parameter setting program. The communication parameters which are thus set are transmitted to the network board 217 and set in the line interface part of the board 217.
