<p>A method and apparatus for producing a guide wire including a core wire, a distal portion of which is surrounded by a helically wound spring. The coils forming the distal portion of the spring include an annular layer of radiopaque material, e.g., gold, ion deposited onto the stainless steel wire of the spring using unbalanced magnetron sputtering, ion implantation, or ion beam assisted deposition.</p> |
