Clay and water mixture for moulding a brick also contains a proportion of particles of an expanded clay or expanded clay granulate. Pref. the granulate has a particle size of 1.0-8.0 mm, partic. comprising an addn. of a first granulate with a particle size of 1.0-4.0 mm and a second granulate with a particle size of 4.0 - 8 mm, the proportion of the second granulate being larger than that of the first granulate. The proportion is pref. 3:3, the first granulate having a density of about 570 kg/m3 and the second granulate having a density of about 3.25 kg/m3.
