PURPOSE: To provide a direct viewing type liquid crystal display element which is constituted of a scattered type liquid crystal and a light reflection layer, whose visual field angle is wide, and whose display quality is high. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal light controlling layer 3 switching a state between a transparent state and a light scattered state when voltage is applied is interposed between a pair of upper and lower base plates 11 and 12 having picture element electrodes 21 and 22, and the light reflection layer 4 is provided under the layer 3 and an optical path bending means 5 where the degree of bending an optical path is changed according to an incident part is provided above the layer 3 in the case of setting a viewing side as an upside. The regularly reflected light of illuminating light 8 is hardly observed and ambient scenery is not imprinted, so that an easy-to-view screen is obtained. |
