An apparatus for preventing a picture crushing when switching a wide mode prevents an instable momentary switching phenomenon of picture occurred when switching a wide mode which increase a conventional video signal as a certain ratio to generates a wide picture. An A/D converting means(1) converts input analog video signals into digital video signal. A judging means(10) judges as to whether a picture is changed into a wide picture according to a select switch(SW1) operated by user. A microcomputer(20) outputs vertical synchronizing signals according to the judging signal provided from the judging means(10). A serial video processing means(2) processes digital video signal inputted from the A/D converter(1) for changing a wide picture and outputs digital video data according to the control signal inputted from the microcomputer(20). A D/A converter(3) converts the digital video data inputted from the serial video processing means(2) into an analog video data. Thereby, the apparatus can remove the instable momentary switching phenomenon of picture.
