PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect the position of the equipment of a mobile station even when no operation is made on the installation of the mobile station by utilizing an already existing mobile telephone communication network to detect the position of a moving object. SOLUTION: By utilizing radio waves from base stations (A-E) of an already existing mobile telephone communication system, base station identification codes and their receiving sensitivities are stored in mobile terminal equipment M and the equipment M is made to transmit the stored information in accordance with a position detecting request from central equipment C. The central equipment C specifies the position of the terminal equipment M from the base station identification codes and information on their receiving sensitivities. A PHS base station can detect the position of the equipment M even when the equipment M exists in such a shielded space as the inside of an underground market, building, etc. In addition, the equipment M can be used as a device for detecting the going out and returning home of the user. Since the equipment M is made to automatically transmit storing contents in response to an instruction from the central equipment C, the user carrying the equipment M is not required to operate the equipment M.
