<p>An antitumor antibiotic, namenamicin, purified from the marine ascidian Polysyncraton lithostrotum is disclosed. An antitumor composition for treating cancerous tumors comprises namenamicin and an inert carrier. A method of treating an individual for cancer comprises administering the composition comprising namenamicin and an inert carrier. A method of purifying namenamicin, a method of inhibiting the growth of a microorganism, and a method of cleaving DNA at a sequence-specific site are also described.</p> |
