<p>A granular carrier for immobilizing microbial cells, produced by dropping a liquid composition comprising: (a) a hydrophilic photocurable resin having at least two ethylenically unsaturated bonds per molecule, (b) a photopolymerization initiator, and (c) a water-soluble high-molecular polysaccharide capable of gelling upon contact with alkali metal ions or polyvalent metal ions into an aqueous medium containing alkali metal ions or polyvalent metal ions to thereby cause the composition to gel in the form of granules, and irradiating the granular gel with actinic rays to cure the same. It has a specific gravity of 1.00 to 1.20 and a contact angle of the surface with n-paraffin of 2 to 30°, and its surface is suitable for microorganism deposition.</p> |
