A method and device for contactless diameter measuring of elongate objects (10) having a substantially circular cross section, illumination devices (12, 13, 14) being provided to illuminate the elongate object and an image reception device (11) being disposed to register a light signal emanating from a reflection from said object. A control (15) continually sets brightness output from the illumination devices (12, 13, 14) according to a predetermined sequence. Control (15) comprises a first memory means (16) for storage of image signals received at different brightness intensities and calculation means (17) for mutual subtraction of the image signals stored in said first memory means (16) so as to damp elements in the registered image signal that deviate from the pattern. The calculation means (17) is designed to determine the object's diameter by establishing the distance between flanks of the image signal. |
