<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a medicine for preventing and treating diabetes, etc., or for improving hepatic functions by using a specific protein obtained in a large amount at a relatively low cost. SOLUTION: This medicine for improving the hepatic functions contains betacellulin protein (hereinafter referred to as BTC protein) or its mutein as an active ingredient. The BTC protein is a protein factor produced by a pancreatic beta tumor cell originated from a transgenic mouse. The BTC protein is preferably a protein having e.g. a sequence of the formula. Especially, a protein having an amino acid sequence expressed by at least a sequence number selected from the sequence number group of 3, 4, 5 and 6 is preferable. A protein having an amino acid sequence of the sequence number 1 or 2 is further preferable. The mutein of the BTC protein is suitably a protein having an amino acid sequence obtained by deleting twelve or thirty amino acids from the N- terminal of the amino acid sequence expressed by the sequence number 1. Further, the simultaneous employment of activin is further preferable.</p> |
