<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a field emission display element that is unlikely to suffer from reflections and glare. SOLUTION: First and second flat display substrates 10, 12 are positioned in parallel with a remover, are made to slump into spherical shapes, separated, and cleaned to form an electronically activated display element on the mating inside recessed and projecting surfaces of the first and second display substrates 10, 12, to enable an image produced by the display element to be seen from the outside recessed surface 20 of the second display substrate 12. The display element is of a field emission type such that the distance between an electron beam thermal vacuum deposition source and each substrate 10, 12 is partly produced by an electron beam deposition method which sets the radius of the sphere of each substrate 10, 12. After the element is formed, the first and second display substrates 10, 12 are repositioned and then interconnected by an ambient vacuum seal 54. Thereafter, the display substrates 10, 12 and an area in the ambient vacuum seal 54 are evacuated.</p> |
