Compounds represented by general formula (I) and pharmacologically acceptable salts thereof {excluding (1R,2S)-2-[(2R)-(2-acetylamino-2-carboxyethyl)thiomethyl]-3-oxo-1-cyclopentanecarboxylic acid (cystacycline)}, wherein X represents O, S, SO, SO2, or NH; Y represents a C1-6 (un)substituted hydrocarbon residue having a molecular weight of 15 to 400, provided that when it is cyclic, it may contain one or two heteroatoms; and Z represents carboxy, a group derived therefrom, or a C1-4 (un)substituted aliphatic hydrocarbon residue. The compounds are useful as a neuron differentiation accelerator.
