The board consists of a timber core (2) which forms its structural section, made up of glued timber strips (7,8,9) in layers, with surface layers (5,6) of timber on the top and bottom for wear or decoration. The surface layers are made from a timber with a high resistance to rot, such as iroko. The layers of the timber core can have their grain running in different directions, and the core itself is covered by a waterproof membrane (10) of a synthetic material such as polyurethane and/or polyester and/or elastomer. The continuity of the seal between boards laid side by side is provided by welded bridging strips.
