摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an optical waveguide device which is small in size and is low in driving electric power by using a load-contg. perovskite type ferroelectric single crystal film having a high electro-optic coefft. as an optical material having an electro-optic effect. SOLUTION: The optical material of the optical waveguide device formed by using the optical material having the electro-optic effect is the lead-contg. perovskite type ferroelectric single crystal film of which the C-axis is oriented in the direction perpendicular to the substrate surface. More preferably, the compsn. formula or this ferroelectric single crystal film is (PBx-a M1a )M2y Ox . M1 if this compsn. formula denotes an alkaline metal, alkaline earth metal, etc., and M2 denotes titanium, zirconium or am element consisting essentially of titanium and zirconium. The electro-optic coefft. of the lead-contg. perovskite type ferroelectric single crystal film used as the material of the optical waveguide is about 4 to 7 times the electrooptic-coefft. of lithium niobate and is capable of giving rise to a large change in phase by the light propagating in the waveguide.</p>
