<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To combine concurrently advantages of a biological membrane method and advantages of a microhabitat method and to perform more efficient cleaning by using filter medium with a slender braid-like shape as a whole and on the surface of which a number of fine holes are opened as a filter medium used in biological water treatment. SOLUTION: An a filter medium used in biological water treatment, a filter medium type with a thickness of approximately 0.5-3cm and the wholly same thickness and being dense and braid-like is used and a number of fine holes 1 are formed on the surface and the peak of the hole diameter distribution is about 1-20μm. In addition, the fine holes are opened on the surface of the filter medium from all direction and these fine holes are under passing-through condition. When this filter medium is used, the fine holes 1 act for immobilization of microorganisms and makes cleaning action of a microhabitat method possible and in addition, when the braid-like materials are extended on a frame body to make a unit and are made under fixed condition, a biological membrane is formed. Therefore, based on synergistic additive action of both methods, high cleaning efficiency can be obtd.</p> |
